Rain will continue to occur at a few places in Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu as the trough (regions of intensified moist winds) remains intact from Rayalaseema to Kerala. Light rain will be experienced in these states during the next two days. Kodaikanal and Madurai received good rains due to this weather system in the last 24 hours.
These regions particularly south Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are waiting for the commencement of northeast monsoon which has been delayed due to late withdrawal of southwest monsoon this year.
"The complete withdrawal of southwest monsoon and development of a weather system either in the Bay of Bengal or along the east coast will start sending moist northeasterly winds towards the east coastal south Peninsula and begin the commencement of the northeast monsoon. Northeast monsoon usually starts in south India between 15-20 October" said Mahesh Palawat, head of the Meteoreogical team at Skymet.
In east India, rain will reduce over Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from tomorrow onwards as the low pressure area over Bihar has become a cyclone circulation and is moving in a northeast direction. For the next two days, rain will continue over few places in the northeast.
The weather in north and central India is increasingly becoming drier as moist winds are giving way for northwesterly winds. With this, night temperatures have started to fall over Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh. Srinagar recorded 9 degrees as minimum temperature which is 3 degrees below normal. Night temperature was also below normal in Ludhiana in Punjab. Delhi recorded a minimum of 20 degrees on Wednesday which is 3 notches lower than Monday.
