Good rains were continuously seen pouring the coastal parts of Maharashtra. In fact, the interior parts of Maharashtra have also witnessed light to moderate rains. Thus, we can say that the entire state of Maharashtra has received varied intensity of rains during the month of September. Plus, the period of September has ended up being rainier in contrast with the long stretch of August.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Alibag recorded light rainfall of 9.4 mm, followed by Sangli at 9.1 mm, Bhira 7 mm, Harnai and Kolhapur 4 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is seen over west central Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha Coast.

Also, an upper air trough is seen extending from this system up to Coastal Karnataka across Andhra Pradesh and North Interior Karnataka. Further, dry and warm winds are merging with moist winds which are blowing over South Madhya Maharashtra region.

Due to the effect of these weather systems over the region, short spells of light rain and thundershowers are expected to continue in many parts of South Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan region during the next 24 to 36 hours.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, the above-mentioned cyclonic circulation is likely to move westwards. Hence, it is likely that the eastern parts of Vidarbha region will get to witness light rains after 36 hours.

Moreover, a feeble trough is seen extending over Konkan & Goa Coast. Also, northerly winds are likely to prevail over Mumbai. Hence, short spells of light rains may occur at isolated places over Mumbai during the next 12 hours. Although the weather conditions over the city of dreams will continue to remain warm and dry.

In the meantime, cities such as Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad, Wardha and Solapur will continue to remain warm and dry. While a few spells of light rains are possible at isolated places over Nagpur, Harnai, Sangli and Bhira during the next 12 hours.

As on September 30, the sub-divisional rainfall distribution statistics show that Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa region are rain surplus by 17% and 10%, respectively. While Vidarbha and Marathwada are rain deficient by 23% and 6%, respectively.

In addition, day temperatures are expected to remain around 35-36 degree Celsius. Whereas, the minimum temperatures will be settling around 25-26 degree Celsius mark.
