Rain likely in parts of Southeast Rajasthan

August 29, 2015 10:28 AM |

Rain likely in parts of East RajasthanMonsoon usually reaches Rajasthan after June 15. However, the region did witness decent pre-Monsoon showers before the arrival of Monsoon. By the end of June itself, West Rajasthan observed a rainfall surplus of 78 per cent, while East Rajasthan was excess by 84 per cent.

During July also, Rajasthan performed fairly well in terms of Monsoon rains. Heavy spells were recorded on several occasions. Not only this, areas including Jaipur and Jalor had also experienced a flood like situation after heavy rains lashed the region. With good Monsoon showers, July ended with a surplus of 78 per cent in West Rajasthan. East Rajasthan also recorded an excess of 7 per cent.

However, the last few days have been mostly dry for Rajasthan as a whole. Now, during the next 2 to 3 days, Southeast Rajasthan including Kota, Bundi and Chittorgarh may receive scattered rain. This rainfall will be attributed to the low pressure area, which is over Odisha and will move in the west direction. This will also result in some rainfall activity over parts of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

In a way, prolonged dry spell will come to an end. However, these rains will not be significant and may not be able to push up the rainfall figures significantly. The normal date of the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon is September 1, but this year the wind profile is not changing. Thus the withdrawal may be a little late this season.
