As predicted by Skymet Weather, after a prolonged dry spell, good rains finally occurred over parts of South Madhya Maharashtra and South Konkan division on the past day. In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Thursday, Sangli recorded 32 mm of rains, meanwhile, Kolhapur also witnessed 16 mm of rains. Vengurla also recorded 14.2 mm of rains.

These rains were a result of the north-south trough extending from North Interior Karnataka to Tamil Nadu.

However, the heatwave has not yet spared parts of Vidarbha. Chandrapur and Bramhapuri were already reeling under heatwave conditions with the daytime highs settling around 46 degrees Celsius and 44.7 degrees Celsius, respectively. But on Thursday, heatwave even gripped Nagpur, Wardha, and Akola with the daytime highs settling near 45 degrees Celsius.

Moreover, isolated pockets of North Madhya Maharashtra also came under the ambit of heatwave like conditions. Places like Malegaon and Jalgaon also recorded the maximum temperature at 44.6 degrees Celsius each.

In fact, Konkan is the only division wherein the temperatures are either near normal or marginally above the normal levels.

As per Skymet Weather, now the north-south trough has shifted and is seen extending from North Rajasthan to South Madhya Maharashtra. Therefore, scattered rains are expected to continue over South Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining Konkan region for another 24 hours.

Thereafter, these scattered rains would cover some more parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan region. Thus, stations like Nashik, Pune, Sangli, Satara, Vengurla, Kolhapur may brace for some more showers. However, Mumbai and Dahanu would continue to remain dry.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

In the wake of the heatwave in parts of Vidarbha, farmers are advised to harvest matured summer crops and keep the harvested produce at a safer place. Farmers are recommended to continue harvesting of Mango during early morning or evening hours.

Farmers should also continue land preparation for Kharif season in fallow lands. Proper measures should be taken against pest infestation.
