Rain likely at many places in India from Monday onwards

Once again our weather predictions seem to be coming true. It’s mid July and Monsoon in India has started to show signs of improvement. According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the weather in India is likely to be rainy at many places from Monday.

West Coast – Heavy showers have lashed the west coast of peninsular India in the last few days. On Saturday too rain was heavy and widespread. Honavar lying at the Karnataka coast recorded a whopping 173 mm of rain which has been the heaviest in the city this season. Mangalore also recorded 144 mm of rain, the heaviest of the season. Rain continued in Mumbai too where 78 and 85 mm of rain was recorded at Santacruz and Colaba stations respectively. Weathermen tell us rain is expected to be heavy along the west coast for another 48 hours and will reduce in intensity thereafter.

Central India - A low pressure system which developed in the Bay of Bengal resulted in rain over many parts of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha in the last two days, though it still hasn't been enough. The region faces the highest deficit of 59% (till 12^th July). Forecasts suggest southeast Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha as well as Chhattisgarh and Odisha in Central India, are in for some good showers on Monday. Rain is expected to continue through Tuesday covering entire Madhya Pradesh. In the last 24 hours, Bhopal has had 12 mm of rain, Indore and Jabalpur recorded 28 mm and 23 mm of rain respectively. In Vidarbha, 20 mm rain was recorded at Gondia whereas in Odisha, the capital Bhubaneswar received 58 mm of rain.

Gujrat and Rajasthan – These two states have so far suffered the maximum brunt of weak monsoon this year. Monsoon line (NLM) reached some parts of both Gujarat and Rajasthan but is yet to cover the states entirely. However, conditions look favorable for the monsoon line to cover many more parts of Rajasthan and entire Gujarat by this week. Rain is likely to occur in south east Rajasthan from Tuesday onwards, whereas in Gujarat rain occurred on Saturday and is likely in the southern parts on Monday. Rain in Gujarat is likely to increase from 15^th July onwards. In the last 24 hours, Amreli and Rajkot recorded 29 and 28 mm of rain respectively. In Rajasthan, rain only occurred at Ajmer, which was 30 mm. Currently, the state of Gujarat faces the highest rain deficit of 92%.
