Rain likely along east and west coast

September 5, 2013 2:19 PM |

Rain is expected along the east coast during the next two days. Light to moderate rain may occur over the coastal areas of Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu as a trough(region of intensified moist winds) is extending from Orissa to north Tamil Nadu coast.

Rain is also likely along the West coast in Kerala and Karnataka as an off shore trough seems to be building up along the coastal areas of these states. Southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea are intensifying along the Gujarat coast as well. Due to this, rain may occur in Gujarat and north Konkan including the commercial capital Mumbai during the next two days.

Northeast region and some parts of east India like sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may see decrease in rain during the next two days as the north-south trough extending from Sikkim to north Bay of Bengal across Bangladesh is expected to weaken.

Light rain is still a possibility over north Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Due to eastward shifting of this trough, rain will also decrease over northeastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya.

Ambala, Chandigarh and Kurukshetra in the northwest plains received rain yesterday and the possibility of light rain remains intact in the region. The reason for rain here was the interaction of Western Disturbance with the western end of monsoon trough.

Temperatures are expected to remain above normal in the plains. However, morning and evening hours will be comfortable due to the prevalence of northwesterly winds from the hills.

Central India will remain dry as no weather system is in the offing. Days in this region will continue to be very warm to hot as temperatures will remain in mid-thirties or above.
