Rain intensity will reduce over Gujarat

July 14, 2016 3:55 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The rain deficiency of Gujarat was scanty initially but due to decent rains in the last 2 to 3 days, the rain deficiency gained up. As on July 1, Gujarat region was witnessing 76 percent rain deficiency while the Saurashtra and Kutch region stood on a rain deficiency of 65 percent.

It was due to a cyclonic circulation over southwest Madhya Pradesh and over Kutch region that had given fairly widespread rains over many parts of Gujarat during last 24 hours. This is the main reason that the rain statistics of the state also improved drastically. As on July 13, Gujarat region was 37 percent rain deficient while Saurashtra and Kutch region was suffering from a 55 percent rain deficiency.

Most pockets of Gujarat have received moderate rains during last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday; Okha recorded 55 mm rainfall, Porbandar measured 65 mm rains, Dwarka recorded 42.4 mm, Gandhinagar 37 mm rains and Veraval observed rainy spells of 22.6 mm.

The rain deficit is further likely to improve during the next 24 to 48 hours. But now, the cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh has moved towards north and is currently over Uttar Pradesh.

Also, the cyclonic circulation over Kutch region has become less marked. It is due to these two weather systems that the rain intensity is now reduced. Which is why rain will be subdued over most parts of the state however south coast of Gujarat may continue to get light to moderate rains for at least next 4 to 5 days.
