The West Coast of the country has been continuously receiving on and off rains. The rain intensity has increased over many parts along the West Coast. Konkan and Goa and Coastal Karnataka has witnessed moderate to heavy rains at many places.

The intensity of rain has also increased over Mumbai. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday, Mahabaleshwar recorded moderate to heavy intensity rain of 69 mm, Vengurla 60 mm, Goa 60 mm, Honavar 53.1 mm, Harnai 37 mm, Ratnagiri 36 mm, Kolhapur 33 mm of rain. Light intensity rain of 15.3 mm was also recorded in Mangalore.

In the same span of time, Colaba Observatory in Mumbai recorded 19 mm of rain, and Santacruz Observatory 3 mm, Dahanu, and Alibag recorded light intensity rains. These rains can be attributed to the off shore trough which is extending along the West Coast.
At present, the off shore trough is now becoming active due to the formation of a cyclonic circulation which is Odisha and is expected to intensify and move in a westwards direction. As per Skymet Weather, moderate to strong westerly winds are blowing over many parts of the West Coast which will lead to further increase in rain activities over Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka, North Kerala and also over Gujarat region. These hefty rains will occur around August 27 to August 29. The weather conditions are also pleasant.
