Rain in Wellington could interrupt 5th ODI between India and NZ

January 30, 2014 6:33 PM |

Team India's wish to keep a good morale for the Test match series with a win in the 5th One-Day International in Wellington may face another hurdle as rain might play a role in the match especially during the second innings.

According to our meteorologists, a tropical storm Dylan is expected to hit North Australia anytime during the next few hours and the region will remain under the influence of stormy weather during the next two days.

Wellington, however is far away from the region (at 20° south latitude) experiencing tropical storm. It is placed in the higher latitude of about 41° south but as ITCZ( Inter Tropical Convergence Zone) is active at the moment in these areas, some sort of rain will find its way to hamper the game by the evening.

Our meteorologists claim that due to this weather system, patchy rain is expected to occur in Wellington but the weather will become clear during the afternoon, when the match starts. By evening, clouds and rain may again return to interrupt the match.

Winds in Wellington may remain southeasterly during the match and will blow at a speed of around 15 to 20 kmph while, the maximum temperature is expected to remain around 20°C .

India has already lost the One-Day series 0-3 and are hoping for a win in the last ODI to gain momentum for the Test series which will start from 6th of February in Auckland. The second Test will be played in Wellington.
