Maharashtra has been reeling under dry and warm weather conditions for quite some long time. In fact, if we have to consider the weather situation sub-divisionally, the temperatures have increased by a few notches over Vidarbha and Marathwada, so much so that maximum and minimums are settling above the normal levels by two to three degrees.

There are also few areas wherein the maximums have been ranging near the 40-degree mark also. On Wednesday, Akola recorded 43°C, Parbhani 42°C, Nagpur 41°C and Osamabad 40°C.
Now, a north-south trough can be seen extending from northern parts of the country up to Karnataka via Vidarbha and Marathwada. Thus, the meteorologists at Skymet Weather expect scattered rain and thundershowers over many parts of the mentioned sub-divisions for at least the next three to four days.
As these are pre-Monsoon showers, they mostly occur during the afternoon or late evening hours. Moreover, they are of limited duration, but would be able to sustain its grasp over the region for a stretch of three to four days, leading to drop in temperatures as well.

Isolated pockets of Vidarbha and Marathwada are also expected to witness hailstorm activities along with the showers around April 7 and 8. By April 13, the weather is most likely to start clearing up and again the temperatures will be on rise.
During the past 24 hours, there were isolated areas in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra that ended up recording some showers such as Washim witnessed rains to the tune of 36 mm. Hence, the rains will spread and cover many parts soon.
Let us have a look at what impact would these showers have on the agriculture:
In view of the expected increase in temperatures over Vidarbha and Marathwada, farmers are advised to apply light and frequent irrigation to the crops. They should undertake harvesting of normal sown summer crops as well.
In Vidarbha, farmers are suggested to provide irrigation to summer moong at an interval of 6 to 7 days and sesame at an interval of 6 to 8 days.
As light to moderate rainfall at isolated places is expected Marathwada and Vidarbha as around April 7 to 8 April, so farmers need to keep the harvested produce of food grains at safer places and take proper care of grapes to avoid cracking problem.
