As on August 2, the state of Uttar Pradesh received normal rains with a deficiency of -8%, while Bihar continues to be rain deficit by 22%.

Due to the recent heavy rain showers over the west and central districts of Uttar Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh presently remains rain surplus by 8%, while East Uttar Pradesh continues to be rain deficit by 16%.

During the last 24 hours, Uttar Pradesh saw moderate to heavy showers where Bahraich recorded a huge of 140 mm, Kanpur 66 mm, Bareilly 64 mm, Hardoi 42 mm, Gorakhpur 28 mm and Shahjahanpur 27 mm.

Similarly, Bihar witnessed light rain with few moderate rainy showers where Purnea received 17 mm, Muzaffarpur 9 mm, Forbesganj 8 mm, Bhagalpur 8 mm, Supaul 5 mm and Gaya 4 mm.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, the low pressure area has shifted to East Uttar Pradesh and is most likely to further move eastward. As a result, we can expect rains to intensify over East Uttar Pradesh including cities like Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Azamgarh where moderate to heavy showers would continue for another 48 hours.

With this, we can expect that after a couple of days, the rain deficiency in East Uttar Pradesh would recover to a great extent.

Furthermore, the eastward movement of the low pressure area over Bihar would eventually increase the rains over the state for the following three to four days.

Therefore, on and off good showers would continue over Bihar including cities like Patna, Gaya, Purnea and Bhagalpur. There are anticipations that these rainy showers would push down the rain deficiency in Bihar as well.
