Short spell of rain and thundershower activities are expected over Dindigul, Erode, Karur, Namakkal, Perambalur, Salem, Theni, Tiruppur, Tiruvannamalai and Vellore, districts of Tamil Nadu during the next two hours.

These rains will be an outcome of a wind discontinuity which is extending from Rayalaseema to interior parts of Tamil Nadu. This weather system will persist for the next 48 hours.

Humid winds from Bay of Bengal will merge with dry winds from northwest direction over the state. This will induce cloud formation, which will subsequently lead to rain and thundershowers over some parts of Tamil Nadu .

In spite of these short spells of rain, the maximum temperature of most places in Tamil Nadu will continue to remain above normal. Isolated pockets will also experience heatwave like conditions.

Yesterday, Tirupati recorded its maximum temperature at 40.4˚C, followed by Tiruttani 40.1˚C, Nandyal 39.4˚C, Salem 39.3˚C, Kavali 39.2C, Madurai 39.2˚C, Anantapur 39.2˚C, Vellore 39.2˚C, Gulbarga 39.1˚C and Nellore 39.1˚C.

Whereas, the minimum temperatures will remain above normal by 2˚C to 4˚C. Further, we do not expect any significant change in night temperatures during the coming days.
