Rain in tamil Nadu

Pre Monsoon has been on the lower side for South India and all pockets remain deficit except Coastal Andhra Pradesh which is normal at 9 percent.

In fact, all other states are more than 30 percent deficit with Tamil Nadu bearing the maximum brunt at -67 percent.

However, during the last 24 hours, some rainfall has been seen over Tamil Nadu, Karnataka as well as Kerala and has been heavy in isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu with 63 mm rains being observed in Madurai, 43 mm in Dharmapuri, 27 mm in Mysuru and 16 mm in Bengaluru.

Today also, some rains are expected over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and South Interior Karnataka. As we approach the Monsoon season, which arrives around May 20 over Bay Islands, activities over the South Indian region pick up.

For the next few days, scattered rains which will be light in intensity are expected over these three areas. Meanwhile, rains will pick up May 12 onward, and will continue until May 16 wherein good showers along with thunderstorms, strong winds and lightning strikes will be seen. This particular rain episode will be prolonged and widespread.

The reason for these rains will be the activation of the Peninsular Trough. Until now, the Trough has been running along the eastern coast i.e. via Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema and adjoining Tamil Nadu.

This Trough has an oscillating nature and keeps shifting its course. Now, an active Western Disturbance will cause rains over North India. Due to the system, Trough will shift over the central parts. Thus, the weather activity will be seen over either sides of the Trough which is Kerala as well as Tamil Nadu.
