During past few days, intermittent showers have been lashing most parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. However, these rains remained confined to southern neighborhoods, while northern districts continued to witness dry weather conditions.
The reason for these rain and thundershowers can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over North Interior Karnataka and neighboring areas. Moreover, the wind discontinuity from Lakshadweep Island to Vidarbha region of Maharashtra is also pounding rains over these states. Now, these systems are expected to move gradually towards the east.
During the last 24 hours as well, isolated light to moderate rain and thundershowers have been recorded over Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Rain activity recorded in a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am from Saturday includes Punalur 15.4 mm, Dharmapuri 4 mm and Palakkad 1 mm of rain.
As per Skymet Weather, sporadic rainfall is likely to continue over parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Meanwhile, the coastal districts like Chennai and nearby areas will continue to see warm and humid conditions, leading to uneasiness and discomfort. Besides this, temperatures are also expected to scale up in both the states.
Tamil Nadu and Kerala remained mostly dry during the month of February and first week of March. It was the second week of March that these states were blessed by rain gods' kindness.
Usually, March and April are not the rainy months for the state of Tamil Nadu and Kerala; however intermittent showers keep occurring over the region at intervals.
