The state of Tamil Nadu has been witnessing on and off thundershowers and rainfall activity since the arrival of October. As on October 13, Tamil Nadu is rain surplus by 36 percent. The cyclonic circulation is prevailing over East Central Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea.

This weather system is likely to strengthen and will move in a west-northwest direction slowly. A trough is also extending from this system up to Telangana across North of Tamil Nadu close to Chennai. Due to these combined weather systems, during the last 24 hours, the state received scattered light to moderate rain at many places.
Chennai also witnessed light rainfall activity. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday, Coimbatore witnessed 22.9 mm of rain, Coonoor 11.8 mm, Palayankottai 10.4 mm, Salem 9.5 mm, Karaikal 6 mm, Kodaikanal 5.7 mm and Nagapattinam 1.2 mm of rain. In the same span of time, Minambakkam Observatory of Chennai witnessed rain to the tune of 1 mm and Nungambakkam 0.7 mm of rain.
As per Skymet Weather, rain will continue to occur over the northern parts, extreme southern parts and adjoining Nilgiri region of the state. Chennai will also continue will also witness rain. The intensity of rain will be mainly light rain with a few moderate spells.

It is anticipated that the rain intensity over Tamil Nadu including Chennai will increase after 24 to 48 hours. The sky conditions will mostly remain cloudy but the weather during the day will remain warm. However, the mornings and nights will be comfortable. The maximum day temperatures is expected to settle around 30°C to 32°C and the minimum 28°C to 30°C.
