Rain in Tamil Nadu around Dec 22 before Northeast Monsoon bids adieu

The Northeast Monsoon has not performed satisfactorily this year for the state of Tamil Nadu. The duo months of October and November turned out to be rain deficient for the state. Also, not much hope can be put in for the month of December, as half of the span has already passed without much rains. The last ten days have been specifically dry for the state with almost no weather activity except for some trace rainfall. The cumulative deficiency (for this season) starting from October for the state stands at -21%. As the Northeast Monsoon season will come to an end on 31st of December, therefore not much hope can be put in for the deficiency to get covered up.

However, a ray of hope can still be witnessed as a Cyclonic Circulation is presently brewing in the South-central Bay of Bengal. This system will possibly cross Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coast in the next 24 hours. Due to this, there’s a possibility of light rainfall on the coast of Tamil Nadu state in the next 24 hours.

Over the next three days this activity will only increase. Light rainfall activity will be followed by light to moderate rainfall in the next 48 hours, mainly on December 23 and 24.

The Cyclonic Circulation will pass in the next 24 hours thus paving way for yet another dry spell of the season, which will possibly persist till December end. The next 10-12 days do not hold much probability for any new weather system to make up for the rain deficiency and thus this month and the season will end on a dry note for Tamil Nadu.
