The weather god seems to bestow kindness over the state of Gujarat, particularly the southern region of the state that has recorded some rains for the second consecutive day. These rains were a major sigh of relief for South Gujarat as they occurred after almost a month-long dry spell. Though the intensity of these showers was mainly light with isolated moderate.

However, the remaining parts of the state continued to reel under dry and warm weather conditions. These rains were already predicted by Skymet Weather. Due to these rainy spells, the mercury levels that shot up to settle close to or above the 42-degree mark, plunged a few notches and settled within 35 degrees.

Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Thursday, the districts of South Gujarat such as Mahuva recorded moderate showers to the tune of 19 mm, Amreli 10 mm, and Diu witnessed light spells of 1 mm only. However, the other regions of the state such as Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Kandla, and Rajkot remained dry.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation was over the northeast Arabian Sea, adjoining Gujarat and North Konkan & Goa. Due to its influence, scattered light to moderate rains occurred over the southern parts of Gujarat. Though the weather of most parts of Gujarat region also became partly cloudy, rains were mainly confined to the southern districts of the state.

Now, this weather system has moved towards the east-central Arabian Sea and therefore, the dry spell will once again take over. The maximum temperatures of South Gujarat along with the already peaking mercury levels over Saurashtra and Kutch will also scale up. This dry spell is likely to continue for at least another week and this weather is perfect for the harvesting of the crops, particularly the groundnut crop.
