Rains have made an appearance over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the last 24 hours. In fact, places like Jalpaiguri and Gangtok recorded rains to the tune of 33 mm and 8 mm, respectively.
The eastern end of the axis of Monsoon trough would be shifting northwards over to foothills of the Himalayas during the next 24 hours or so. Due to this axis of Monsoon trough, warm and moist winds will affect Sikkim and Sub Himalayan West Bengal.
Therefore, moderate to heavy rainfall activities over many parts of these areas with a few very heavy spells of showers are expected over these parts. Similar rainfall activity is expected to continue over both Sikkim and Sub Himalayan West Bengal for at least the next four to five days.
During the coming days, landslides may also occur over Sikkim and flood like conditions over low lying areas of Sub Himalayan West Bengal during the later days. Day temperatures will decrease due to presence of extensive clouding and rains. In fact, lightning strikes are also possible over these areas during the rainfall period.
Heavy rains will mostly occur during the early morning and late evening hours. Cities of Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Gangtok may receive heavy rainfall activities in the coming days.
