It seems that heaven has unlocked its door for the so-called ‘Heaven on Earth’, Jammu and Kashmir. That is the reason that this hilly state of North India had witnessed on and off showers spanning from January until even yesterday.
In fact, the most popular and adored hill station, and the summer state capital, Srinagar witnessed rains in the last 24 hours as well. During the month of March, Srinagar observes a normal rainfall of 115.6 mm and till date, ‘the city of lakes’ had recorded 86.2 mm of rains.
As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these rains can be attributed to the active Western Disturbances affecting the Western Himalayas. At present also, the Western Disturbance is affecting the Western Himalayan region.
Hence, rains are expected to continue over Srinagar also including over Jammu and Kashmir for the day. Within next 24 hours, as this weather system will shift eastwards, rains are likely to reduce over ‘the city of lakes’.
The reduced rain activity will also lead to an increase in the temperatures. Therefore incidents of snowfall will reduce but isolated places in upper reaches of the state may still witness light snow.
Moreover, the temperatures at present are also rising gradually, On Monday also, Srinagar recorded the day temperatures at 26°C as against the monthly average maximum of 13.8°C which was 8°C above the normal.
In a nutshell, though it seems harder for Srinagar to crack its average monthly rainfall record but the city has managed to settle pretty close to it.
