Updated on April 19 : More rain likely in Srinagar this week, pleasant weather ahead
Due to absence of any weather activity, the cool, summer holiday destination had been experiencing above normal temperature during past seven days. However, after a long haul, Srinagar is in for pleasant weather during this week.
While Srinagar received more than 25 mm of rain in past two days, it is expected to get more rainfall after a couple of days. Another Western Disturbance is expected to approach the hilly region of North India.
There is a possibility of light rain today after which weather is most likely to remain cool and pleasant till April 22. Rainfall will then be expected in Srinagar on April 22 evening and April 23.
In the wake of this rainfall activity, the maximum and minimum temperatures that took a dip in last two days will be arrested. It is anticipated that temperatures will not rise and hence the discomforting weather will remain absent from Srinagar till the weekend.
Story first published on April 18: Rain in Srinagar brings cool weather back to Jammu and Kashmir
While most parts of the country are reeling under intense heatwave conditions, even the hills of North India were not left too far behind.
Many places in the hills were observing above normal minimums and maximums.
During the past few days, the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar was recording above average temperatures.
The so-called summer getaways had been reeling under summer heat.
These conditions were prevailing due to the absence of any weather system affecting the Western Himalayas.
However, a Western Disturbance came to the rescue. The system resulted in good showers over several parts of Jammu and Kashmir on April 17.
While Srinagar recorded 25 mm of rain in a span of 24 hours, Qazi Gund received 24 mm rain. Bhuntar, at 34 mm also observed good rainfall activity.
These rains have resulted in a significant drop in both maximums and minimums. Srinagar which was observing above normal maximum at 24.6°C has witnessed a drop of almost 10 degrees after good showers lashed the city. Presently, the maximum in Srinagar stands at 14.2°C, which is seven degrees below the normal levels.
Minimums have also witnessed a steep drop. Thus, cool weather has made a comeback to Jammu Kashmir. However, the Western Disturbance is moving away, and temperatures may witness a rise once again.
But, another Western Disturbance is likely to affect the hills of North India by April 22 which will again bring down the temperatures.
