The eastern states of the country, Bihar and Jharkhand have been witnessing rains since last night. A trough is extending from North Bihar to North Coastal Odisha moving up till the mid-tropospheric levels. In association, a Cyclonic Circulation is persisting over Assam and its adjoining areas. Due to the prevailing systems, the southern part of Jharkhand has started receiving rain and thundershower activities. The weather systems are likely to strengthen in the coming days, peaking on February 27. The activity would intensify over Jharkhand with moderate spells and squalls being observed at some places. Chances of isolated hailstorm cannot be ruled out either during this time. The southern parts of Bihar are also expected to receive some rain and thundershower activities during next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, another system is approaching the region, which would affect Bihar and Jharkhand February 27 onward. During this span, widespread rain and thundershower activities would be witnessed in several areas with chances of squally winds. The activity would peak on February 27 and start reducing by February 28, weakening completely by March 1. By March 2, the weather will clear up. The maximums are expected to drop by 5 to 6 degrees in Jharkhand, while Bihar would witness a drop of 3 to 4 degrees today itself.
In the past 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday , Ranchi has received 8 mm of rainfall. Jamshedpur recorded 30 mm of rain during the same period surpassing the values of monthly average of 28.8 mm. Places like Gaya, Nawada, Banka, Purnia and Bhagalpur in Bihar have already witnessed traces of rain and thundershower activities.
