Rain in Rajasthan

The state of Rajasthan has seen the return of some winter chill in the past couple of days. In fact, both day and night temperatures over most parts of Rajasthan witnessed a significant drop on January 14 and 15.

Earlier also, almost all the places over this state observed above normal temperatures but due to cold winds from north direction, temperatures dropped. Moreover, many places are now seeing both day and night temperatures below normal.

Isolated pockets of Rajasthan such as Kota are even under Cold Wave conditions. However, now there will be further marginal fall in temperatures till tomorrow, as northerly cold winds will continue.

From January 18, winds will change direction and will start blowing from southeast direction and temperatures will once again start increasing and may become above normal. Thus, resulting in abatement of cold wave conditions from Rajasthan.

Further, January 20 onward, light rain is expected to commence over the northern districts, in wake of the active Western Disturbance over the Western Himalayas, which will also induce a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining North Rajasthan.

Gradually rain intensity and spread will increase, and we expect on and off light rains to occur over parts of the state till January 3. On January 22 and 23, even the central and western districts of Rajasthan such as Bikaner, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer will also observe spell of light rain and thundershower activities.

However, the rest of the southern districts such as Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Kota and Pratapgarh will remain mainly dry.
