Rain in Rajasthan starting from Feb 25, dry weather until then

February 22, 2019 6:14 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Many districts of Rajasthan, particularly North and West Rajasthan received light to moderate rain and thundershowers between February 17 and 20.

These rains were the result of an induced Cyclonic Circulation formed due to an active Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir. Night temperatures during this period remained significantly above normal over most of the places.

Now, as the Western Disturbance has moved away and northwesterly cold winds have commenced over West Rajasthan, minimums have dropped by 3℃ to 6℃ in most parts of West Rajasthan.

At present, there is a wide variation between the minimums of East and West Rajasthan wherein, minimums of West Rajasthan are below normal by 2 to 4 degrees, while East Rajasthan is experiencing above normal minimums by 3 to 6 degrees.

According to Skymet, the continuous flow of cold winds from northwest direction will force minimums in West Rajasthan to drop further. Likewise, East Rajasthan will also witness a drop of about 3℃ in minimums and maximums in the next 48 hours.

Rain forecast

Another active Western Disturbance will form over the Western Himalayas around February 25. This weather system will simultaneously induce a Cyclonic Circulation over West Rajasthan. Thus, we expect scattered rains to commence over Rajasthan starting from February 25.

The intensity and spread of these rains will increase on February 26 with intermittent rain continuing in the region till then. Places like Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Churu, Alwar, Sikar, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh and Jaipur will observe rains. There are bright chances of hailstorm as well at isolated places in Sikar, Alwar and Jaipur. By February 27, the weather will start clearing up and subsequently become dry.
