In the past 24 to 48 hours, Monsoon remained active over West Bengal and Odisha. Yesterday’s Low-Pressure Area over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal has shifted to South Jharkhand and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha.
Widespread rain activities were a sight in the past 24 hours over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha with few heavy spells. Places like Balasore, Bhubaneswar, Chandbali and Puri witnessed 23 mm, 28 mm, 5.4 mm and 22.5 mm of rains, respectively. While in Gangetic West Bengal places like Asansol, Kolkata and Diamond Harbour witnessed 25.4 mm, 8.6 mm and 13.5 mm of rains, respectively.
The present situation shows that rainfall activity would continue in the northwestern parts of Odisha with moderate and isolated heavy spells. Also, scattered light to moderate rains is expected in the rest parts of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. These activities are likely to continue for the next 24 hours and would reduce thereafter. While North Bay of Bengal would continue to receive light to moderate rain and thundershower activities and will intensify post 48 hours. Thus, we can say that heavy spells are in sight for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from June 25 to June 28.
