Rain in Punjab, Haryana to reduce after 24 hours; to commence again around Feb 25

Rain in Punjab has become quite a common affair with back to back systems making an appearance. Haryana has also been seeing some rains.

This year Punjab has recorded excess rains and is largely excess at present. On the other hand, rains did pay Haryana a visit as well and the state is currently deficient by just 6 percent, which lies in the normal levels.

The reason of excessive rains over Punjab can be attributed to the successive Western Disturbances which also induced Cyclonic Circulations over the Northern Plains. Thus, it was the northern part of Punjab which saw rains due to both these systems.

Now, scattered light to moderate rains will continue over northern districts of Punjab and Haryana for another 24 hours. These rains will occur in the wake of a persisting Western Disturbance along with the moisture incursion taking place from the Arabian Sea up to the Western Himalayas and the foothills of Punjab and Haryana.

After 24 hours, weather will become dry for some time.

Thereafter, a confluence zone will develop over Punjab and Haryana on February 24. A day later, an induced Cyclonic Circulation will form over North Rajasthan and adjoining South Haryana due to a Western Disturbance over the Western Himalayas.

Thus, once again, another spell of rain may make an appearance over both these states on February 25 and 26. These rains will be scattered in nature and light to moderate in intensity.

Weather will once again go dry thereafter due to eastward movement of the systems.

Talking about the temperatures, minimums are likely to see a rise over Punjab and Haryana on February 24 and 25. However, they will once again fall by two to three degrees around February 27 on account of the commencement of northwesterly winds.

By the end of this rainy episode, Punjab will see twice the rains in the month of February while Haryana will witness normal rains.
