The northwestern states of Punjab and Haryana have been experiencing rain and thundershowers since the last few days. And in the last 24 hours both the states recorded light to moderate rainfall activity accompanied with thundershowers and strong winds.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Patiala recorded 29 mm of rain, followed by Ambala 20 mm, Kurukshetra 14 mm, Karnal 10.2 mm, Chandigarh 2.3 mm, Faridabad 3 mm and Gurugram 1 mm.

These rains were a result of the Western Disturbance over the Western Himalayas and an induced cyclonic circulation over the northwestern plains. Now both these weather systems are moving away eastwards.

Therefore, we expect rainfall activity to prevail only over the northern and eastern parts of Punjab and some parts of Haryana. These rains will be in the form of short spells and will not last long. Isolated hailstorm activity may also occur in the region.

We expect weather conditions to clear up by tomorrow and then minimums will drop over most parts of the states. At present, both day and night temperatures are below normal.

Presently, Punjab is rain surplus by almost 100%, while Haryana is still lagging behind with near normal rains.
