After witnessing almost dry weather conditions, consecutively for the past three days, Northeast India is all set to witness prolonged spell of rain and thundershower activities starting from today.
According to Skymet Weather, rains will first touch parts of Arunachal Pradesh and the higher reaches of Assam, wherein Pasighat, Itanagar, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur will witness rains today and tomorrow.
March 16 onward, the spread will increase and cover, first the eastern parts such as Jorhat and Lakhimpur and then the western parts like Guwahati, Dhubri and Golaghat.
By March 17, these activities will pick up pace. Our meteorologists predict heavy rain, thunderstorm, lightning strikes and hailstorm activities in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur on March 18.
These rains will be a result of an Anti -Cyclone, which is present over the central parts of Bay of Bengal. Moreover, the humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are bringing moisture content to Northeast India. This system will also activate the Cyclonic Circulation, which is over Assam thereby initiating rains in Northeast India.
The above systems will start moving in an eastward direction by March 19 due to which the intensity of rain will reduce in the region.
Due to good amount of rains, between March 1 and 7, almost all the northeastern states were either in ‘normal’ or in ‘excess’ category. However, the weather has almost remained dry since then. Because of the dry conditions the surplus in the region got consumed and deficiency was recorded. But, with the upcoming spell of rain, we expect deficiency figures to improve and come under ‘normal’, ‘excess’ or ‘largely excess’ category in most places of Northeast India.
