November 23, 2018 12:43 PM | Skymet Weather Team

As predicted by Skymet Weather, during the last 24 hours, many places in Tamil Nadu experienced light to moderate rain and thundershower activities with few heavy spells and strong gusty winds. In fact, Parangipettai in Tamil Nadu recorded heavy rainfall activity to the tune of 78 mm.

In the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Cuddalore recorded 59 mm of rain, followed by Puducherry 49 mm, Vellore 47 mm, Tiruttani 37 mm, Karaikal 31 mm, Nagapattinam 29 mm, Coonoor 22 mm and Chennai 17 mm.

Now the low-pressure area over interior parts of Tamil Nadu has weakened and at present lies as a trough of low which is extending from Tamil Nadu to Lakshadweep Islands.

Due to presence of this weather system, we expect light to moderate rainfall activity over some places over the state. No significant change in temperatures is expected over interior parts of the state. However, the coastal parts will experience slight increase in day temperatures.

Further, these weather conditions are likely to continue during the next 36 to 48 hours. Thereafter, weather activities in terms of rains are likely to reduce significantly.

As of today, the entire state of Tamil Nadu is 16% rain deficient. Thus, looking at the ongoing rains we expect further reduction in the rain deficiency over Tamil Nadu.
