Rain in parts of Pakistan to continue for another 24 hours

Since the last two days, Pakistan has been experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall activity. In fact, due to the passage of an active Western Disturbance, snowfall activity also occurred over the northern parts of the country.

Many places in South Pakistan also received moderate to heavy rains. Places such as Karachi which hardly receive rain during this season recorded good rain to the tune of 44 mm. Due to such extensive unseasonal rain, street flooding was observed in the city. Such heavy rain even caused shut down of the road link between Karachi- Quetta.

Moreover, havoc was created in the city of Quetta, due to such incessant rains which ended up with 4 deaths and 20 people injured. The city received about 60 mm of in one and a half hour.

Along with this in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Islamabad recorded 82 mm of rain, followed by Rawalpindi 58 mm, Sialkot 36 mm, Murree 32, Mangla 25 mm, Gujranwala 23 mm, Kamra 20 mm, Chakwal 19 mm, Lahore 11 mm, Malamjabba 47 mm, Balakot 33 mm, Kalam 32 mm, Pattan 27 mm, Kakul 26 mm, Rawalakot 44 mm, Muzaffarabad 42 mm, Kotli 31 mm and Garidupatta 21 mm.

Meanwhile, snowfall in inch was recorded as follows: Malamjabba received 19 inches of snow, followed by Kalam 16, Murree 08, Astore 05, Bagrote and Hunza 01.

Now both the weather systems are moving away eastwards. This has resulted in wind change to easterly/northwesterly. Therefore, rains are now expected to ease out and during the next 24 hours, only on and off rains will continue over the northern parts of the country. Thereafter, weather will once again become clear.
