At present, both Odisha and Chhattisgarh have reported near the normal range of rainfall for the month of July, the former state is precisely rain deficit by 3%, while the latter is rain surplus by 2%.

The above assertion could be credited to the successive weather systems originating over the west central Bay of Bengal and then proceeding inland towards Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

These cyclonic circulations or low pressure areas could be held responsible for the on and off good rains lashing both the states.

In fact, light to moderate spells accompanied with one or two heavy falls were observed over Odisha as well as Chhattisgarh during the past 24 hours.

Throughout 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Pendra was lashed by heavy spells to the tune of 57 mm, followed by Cuttack 56 mm, Ambikapur 50 mm, Bhubaneswar 13 mm, Chandbali 10 mm, Koraput 8 mm, Pulbani 6 mm, Bilaspur 4 mm, Angul 3 mm, Gopalpur 3 mm and Paradip settled at 3 mm of light spells.

Now, the present-day low pressure area has moved westwards, thus there may be slight drop in the rainfall activity over both Odisha and Chhattisgarh for the next two days. Places such as Bhawanipatna, Ongole, Bhubaneswar, Pendra, Bilaspur and Raipur may observe rains.

Then again, a fresh low pressure area is expected to form off the Odisha Coast. This weather system is expected to again travel inland, bringing in moderate to heavy rainfall over Odisha around July 21.

Subsequently, the system would impact the state of Chhattisgarh, wherein similar rain activity can be expected. So, the intensity of showers would increase over these two states between July 21 and 23.

On July 24, the intensity of showers is expected to lessen over Odisha, but Chhattisgarh would continue to adore good showers.
