Northeast India has been a poor performer in terms of rains during the months of March and April. However, now, rainy days are all set to make an appearance in the coming days. The last week also had some rains lashing the northeastern states and now more such days are set to come which will cover up the rainfall deficiency which has been prevailing over the state.

In fact, the last 24 hours also saw some rains which were heavy in isolated pockets as well. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Silchar saw 56 mm of rains, Kailashahar 18 mm, Pet Jorhat 15 mm, Cherrapunji 13 mm, Dhubri 7 mm, Lengpui 8 mm, Haflong 9 mm, and Kohima 3 mm.

More rains are in store and these rainfall activities are likely to stay for a while, about a week or so. The northeastern regions will see moderate showers wherein the second half will see more rains as compared to the first half.

These rains will be attributed to the presence of a Cyclonic Circulation over Bihar and adjoining region and another over southern parts of Central Bay of Bengal. Also, there will be an inflow of southeasterly winds from Bay of Bengal and moisture incursion will increase over the region.

Lightning strikes cannot be ruled out while some parts may see heavy showers during this time as well.
