The tale of dry weather has been continuing in Maharashtra for the last many days. Due to this, the maximums are resting way above the normal levels.

The minimum temperature of Vidarbha has remained above normal by three to four degrees. For instance, today, the night temperatures of Akola, Wardha, and Amravati, each settled 4 degrees beyond their normal mark.

Meanwhile, maximums across the region are settling marginally above the normal. Stations like Nagpur and Yeotmal are 2 degrees beyond the normal each while Gondia is just a degree above the normal levels.

As per Skymet Weather, not many changes are anticipated in the Vidarbha region for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, minimums may decrease by 2-3 degrees Celsius. Between February 10 and 12, parts of Vidarbha may get to witness some light rains.

Districts such as Malegaon, Satara, and Nashik had witnessed the minimums settling 5 degrees above the normal each today. On the contrary, the night temperatures of Pune were 6 degrees beyond the normal. Kolhapur and Sangli also recorded the minimums above normal by 4 degrees each.

Skymet Weather anticipates the commencement of northerly and northeasterly winds over Madhya Maharashtra region after 24 hours, that would result in dropping the minimums by 2-3 degree Celsius. Light rain may occur over the southern parts of Madhya Maharashtra on February 12.

Let us have a look at the impact of this weather on agriculture:

As the maximum temperatures are recording above normal; the farmers are advised to complete the harvesting and threshing of matured Bengal gram, Jowar, Safflower and Tur crop.

Further, they are suggested to keep the threshed produce in gunny bags at dry places. On the basis of the soil moisture and crop requirements, farmers are advised to apply light irrigation through sprinklers in the Wheat crop.

Farmers should also keep a close watch on the Wheat crop for pest infestation against aphids. If necessary, take spray to control aphids. For the farmers of East Vidarbha and Madhya Maharashtra, farmers are recommended to complete the sowing of summer Groundnut and to provide irrigation to early sown Groundnut.
