It seems that the intense hot days have not yet gotten over for the state of Maharashtra. Heatwave conditions are at its peak and there seems no respite from the condition as of now. Moreover, parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada have been whirling under heatwave like conditions. However, Konkan division has been witnessing warm and humid weather conditions.

The temperatures of Vidarbha have been constantly scaling up to settle above the 45-degree mark. Few parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada have seen the temperatures settling near 45-degree mark while temperatures are in mid-30’s in parts of Konkan.

On Sunday, stations like Bramhapuri and Chandrapur recorded the daytime highs at 47.5ºC and 47.4ºC, respectively. Nagpur recorded the maximum temperatures at 46.2ºC, Wardha 45.8ºC, Parbhani 45ºC, Malegaon 44.8ºC, Akola 44.6ºC, Gondia 44.3ºC and maximums of Jalgaon remained at 44ºC.

The temperatures of Mumbai during the same time frame settled at 35.4ºC followed by Ratnagiri at 33.7ºC.

As per Skymet Weather, the temperatures of most parts of Maharashtra are high due to the prevalence of dry and hot northwesterly winds blowing over the state from the hotter regions of Sindh and Balochistan.

However, Skymet Weather now anticipates a brief relief from hot weather conditions in Vidarbha as we expect isolated rain and thundershowers to occur over the eastern parts of Vidarbha. The districts most likely to receive these thunderstorm and thundershower activities include Gondia, Chandrapur, Bramhapuri, and Nagpur for the next 24-48 hours.

On the other hand, the weather of Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan would continue to remain dry and warm with possibilities of partly cloudy sky. After two to three days, the temperatures may further increase over most parts of the state.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

In view of rain, avoid irrigation, intercultural operation and application of plant protection measures and fertilizers to the standing crops. Farmers are also advised to provide adequate drainage in ginger, turmeric, pulses and vegetable fields.

Farmers should also keep the harvested produce in safer place. In South Konkan, farmers should continue nursery bed preparation for Kharif rice & Ragi. In Marathwada, cover the banana bunches with green shade net to protect from bright sunshine. Farmers should also prepare artificial windbreaks around the banana plantation.
