Dry and hot weather conditions were prevailing over the entire state of Maharashtra since many days. In fact, few pockets have been observing heatwave conditions also as the temperatures are settling at 45°C or above. After a long gap as predicted by Skymet Weather, few districts of Vidarbha region witnessed pre Monsoon showers during the past day.

Meanwhile, other parts of the day remained dry. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Chandrapur district recorded rain to the tune of 8 mm and Wardha 2 mm. In the same time frame, Nagpur also recorded traces of pre-Monsoon rains.

These rains occurred due to a trough which was extending from Rajasthan to South India across Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha.

In spite of the pre-Monsoon activities, there was no major impact on the temperature profile of the state as the rains occurred during the late evening and afternoon hours. Thus, now also heatwave conditions are prevailing in many districts of Vidarbha and isolated pockets of Marathwada. Until that time, the day maximums had already reached its zenith.

As per Skymet Weather, the north-south trough is still in the vicinity of Vidarbha region. Therefore, we expect light rain and thundershower activity to continue over parts of Vidarbha during the next 24 to 48 hours. However, these pre Monsoon activities will be short-lived and patchy in nature and are likely during the late evening and afternoon hours only.

Meanwhile, the weather of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan region will continue to be dry. The day temperatures are expected to settle near normal.
