Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from entire Northeast India including the state of Nagaland. However, on and off rainfall activity over the northeastern states still continue as the Bay of Bengal remains active and weather systems keep visiting the nearby areas of Northeast India.
During the last 24 hours as well, light to moderate rainfall activity was observed over the state of Nagaland. In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Tizit recorded 32 mm of rain, followed by Longleng 30 mm, Mon 15 mm and Tuli 11.5 mm.
At present, a well-marked low-pressure area lies in the Bay of Bengal which is further expected to intensify into a depression and possibly into a deep-depression thereafter.
As this system is likely to travel towards Northeast India, therefore, we expect rains over the northeastern states along with the state of Nagaland.
Starting from October 10, light rains will commence over Nagaland. Further from October 11, intensity will pick up pace and widespread rain and thundershower activities are likely to affect the state. In fact, on October 12, we expect heavy to very heavy rains to lash most parts of Nagaland. Rain intensity will be more over the mountainous districts as compared to the plains.
Due to the effect of these heavy rains, the day temperatures in Nagaland which at present are settling in low-30s over plains and in mid-20s over, are expected to drop gradually.
Further, from October 13, rains will start reducing over Nagaland and on October 14, major rainfall reduction will be experienced over entire Northeast India.
