Rain in Maharashtra is once again set to increase from October 17 in the wake of two strong weather systems that would develop soon.

This includes a Low-Pressure Area currently lying near Lakshadweep as a Cyclonic Circulation. This system is expected to move in west/northwest direction towards North Konkan Coast and later intensify into a Well Marked Low-Pressure Area, thus affecting Mumbai and adjoining parts of Thane, Dahanu and South Gujarat.

Another system includes a Trough that would be extending from Madhya Pradesh up to Madhya Maharashtra across Vidarbha along with a Confluence Zone likely to develop over Maharashtra around 500 HPA.

The combination of these two would enhance the rainfall activities and bring moderate showers for Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha. Some good rains may appear in South Konkan and Goa as well.

Mumbai rains would return on October 19 and on October 20 and 21, there may be moderate spells along with one or two intense spells.

The post Monsoon season commenced on a good note for Madhya Maharashtra, which is standing rain surplus at 31% (as per rainfall data from Oct 1 to 13).

The divisions of Marathwada and Konkan and Goa too have managed to stand in the normal category with a deficiency of just 4% (+/-19 considered normal).

However, the region Vidarbha has been rain deficient by a huge margin of 77% since the commencement of post Monsoon season.
