November 19 can be observed as the happiest day of the season for the residents of Maharashtra. After a long time battle with dry weather, fairly widespread rains and thundershowers were experienced over Madhya Maharashtra, parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada.
The beautiful beaches of South Konkan & Goa were also glorified with a few spells of rain that had occurred yesterday. These rains brought an end to prolonged dry spell.
In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Buldana recorded 35 mm, Jeur 35 mm, Washim 22 mm, Sholapur 15 mm, Ratnagiri 4 mm and Vengurla 2 mm.
The reason for these rains can be attributed to the trough which had been extending from North Madhya Maharashtra to South Konkan & Goa.
Further, these rains were “much needed” to maintain the moisture content of soil which had been continuously depleting at an alarming rate. Moreover, many Talukas of Maharashtra were also deceased with facing drought like conditions. But finally, shower blessings have turned the tables around.
Although, these rains are not expected to last for very long but are at least helpful in restoring the moisture content of soil to some extent which as a consequence would let Rabi crops to grow and nurture at a faster pace.
At present, a trough is extending from North Interior Karnataka to Vidarbha will continue to give scattered light to moderate rains over many parts of Madhya Maharashtra, some parts of Marathwada as well as over isolated pockets of western districts of Vidarbha.
These rains will prove to be as “lender of last resort” particularly for Vidarbha, which had experienced not even a single drop of rain throughout October and November.
Likewise, Konkan & Goa would also continue to receive scattered rains. These on and off rains are expected to continue till tomorrow. Thereafter, weather will become dry once again and the wait for next rains would continue.
