Maharashtra has been one of the rainiest states during the Southwest Monsoon. Exceptionally good rains have blessed the parts of the state this year.
In fact, Marathwada which was facing drought since last 2-4 years has also witnessed good rains. Let's have a look at the rainfall recorded in most parts of the state in a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Sunday:
Harnai recorded the most 62 mm of rainfall, Second by Akola with 32 mm, Mahabaleshwar recorded 27 mm, Chandrapur 10.2 mm, Amravati 4 mm and Mumbai observed 1.8 mm of showers.
During last 2-3 days, moderate to heavy rains have been lashing Marathwada, many parts of north Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa.
These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which traveled from west central Bay of Bengal and at present is persisting over Madhya Maharashtra.
This weather system is further likely to move in a northwesterly direction and due to this, North Madhya Maharashtra along with Konkan and Goa including Mumbai are likely to continue to receive good rains for another 48 hours.
However, rain intensity over Vidarbha will be much lesser as compared to the regions mentioned above. Thereafter, 48 hours hence, rains are foreseen to reduce over Konkan and Goa along with Madhya Maharashtra. However, scattered light rains are still likely to make their appearance over these areas.
As per the weatherman, these ongoing rains are not beneficial for the Kharif crops. In fact, most of the kharif crops have already been destroyed in Marathwada. These ready to harvest crops particularly include Soybean, cotton, urad, tur and til.
Moreover, these rains which have even caused deluge in most parts of Marathwada are likely to continue for another 2 to 3 days. Hence, it can be said that in most of the regions, harvesting is expected to witness a delay.
However, if trusted the experts, these rains which are bringing in plenty of soil moisture and water are beneficial for Rabi crops.
