The southern state of Kerala has been receiving scattered pre-Monsoon rain activities for the last many days. Whereas, rains over Tamil Nadu are comparatively on the lesser side.
While, most parts of Kerala have been gripped by pre-Monsoon showers, for Tamil Nadu, it is mainly the districts lying in close proximity to Kerala that had witnessed some showers. On the other hand, the coastal stations of Tamil Nadu mainly remained dry.
Similar weather pattern was observed during the last 24 hours in both the states as well. Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Palayankottai recorded 6.4 mm of rains, Coonoor 2.8 mm, Kanyakumari 2.2 mm, Vellore 1.7 mm, and Kochi, Kannur, and Madurai recorded 2 mm of rains each.

As per Skymet Weather, now a trough is extending from Madhya Maharashtra to Comorin area across Interior Karnataka and Interior Tamil Nadu. In the wake of this, we expect light to moderate rains to continue over Kerala for another 48 hours.
Few districts of Interior Tamil Nadu may also receive few spells of rains. However, due to the absence of any significant weather system, the districts of coastal Tamil Nadu would have to manage with partly cloudy skies only as rains are not foreseen for the coastal belt of the state.
Hence, Chennai, Puducherry, Karaikal and Cuddalore would remain dry.
