Rain in Konkan & Goa, dry weather over rest of Maharashtra

Southwest Monsoon ended with deficient rains for the entire state of Maharashtra. The same pattern was followed in the month of October as well, and until now all the meteorological divisions of Maharashtra are largely rain deficient.

In fact, as on October 9, Marathwada is 73% rain deficient, followed by Vidarbha 99%, Konkan & Goa 61% and Madhya Maharashtra 58%.

Now also dry and warm weather conditions are continuing over the state since the last many days. However, isolated rains occurred over South Konkan & Goa during the last 24 hours.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Ratnagiri recorded 24 mm of rain, followed by Panjim 4 mm, Kolhapur 3 mm and Mormugao 2 mm.

Talking about the temperatures over Maharashtra, maximum temperatures over most parts of the state are above normal by three to four degrees. Minimum temperatures are mostly near normal or below normal except in North Konkan & Goa and North Madhya Maharashtra where minimums are also above normal by two to three degrees.

At present, an anti-cyclone has formed over Vidarbha and adjoining Madhya Pradesh. Thus, we can say that, mostly dry and hot weather conditions will continue over entire state. However, isolated rains may occur over Konkan & Goa during next 24 hours. Mumbai is too likely to see some rains on Tuesday.

Thereafter, weather over Konkan & Goa will also go dry.

We expect sky over Vidarbha to become partly cloudy on October 12 and 13, due to the influence of a cyclone in Bay of Bengal. But we do not expect any rains during that time over Vidarbha.
