After giving widespread rain and thundershower activities over the eastern regions of India like East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, the focus has now shifted over to West Bengal and Odisha.
During the last 24 hours, scattered light rains occurred over parts of both these states. In fact, places such as Bankura, Malda, Digha and Bhubaneswar have already received spell of rain and thundershowers.

At present, the confluence zone lies over Odisha region. A trough is extending from West Uttar Pradesh to Bihar. Therefore, rain intensity and spread will increase over West Bengal and Odisha.
Now we expect light to moderate rain and thundershower activities with one or two heavy spells to occur over these states. There are also chances of lightning strike and hailstorm activity in parts of West Bengal, during the next 24 hours.
Talking aboutKolkata, it has been experiencing dry weather since the last many days. However, now the city will observe scattered rain and thundershower activities. After 24 hours, Kolkata is likely to become dry.
Moreover, after 24 hours, the weather systems will move further eastwards, and the rain belt will shift over to the northeastern states. Thus, rain intensity will start decreasing over entire East India including West Bengal and Odisha. However, isolated light rains may still continue over parts of these states.
These rains will be harmful for the Rabi crop. Hailstorm activity may bring quite loss for the farmers. But still the loss will be mush less than the loss witnessed in Madhya Pradesh and other northern states.
