Pre-Monsoon rains begin to lash Kolkata again
As reiterated by Skymet Weather, rain and thundershowers have once again started lashing Kolkata. At present, also, the state capital is witnessing good rains across several parts of the city.
Rain bearing clouds had developed over the city during the late afternoon hours, resulting in weather activity over the city. Intense clouding is indicating that the rains will continue for the next couple of hours.
In wake of this, weather have become extremely pleasant over Kolkata, as mercury has fallen down significantly.
More spells of rain and thundershowers are expected during the next 24 hours as well, reducing thereafter.
The weather over Kolkata and entire sub-Himalayan West Bengal has gone extremely pleasant all thanks to the rain activity that has been going for the last two days. In fact, the City Of Joy witnessed heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours as well.
As of 04:00pm in Kolkata on March 11, dense convective clouding is seen which means rainfall can start any moment now.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, the city has recorded a good 23.4 mm of rainfall.
This weather activity is witnessed due to the trough which is extending from sub-Himalayan West Bengal to Odisha across Gangetic West Bengal. But this system is likely to weaken gradually after 24 hours so meteorologists at Skymet Weather expects that scattered rain thundershowers to occur over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata.
Squally winds are likely to be seen over the area, which may reach up to 50-70kmph in few parts. Few areas may receive isolated hailstorm activity. Rain and thundershower is likely to affect the region in later afternoon and evening hours. The afternoon will be warm and humid whereas the weather during morning hours will be pleasant.
Kolkata has recorded 116 mm of rain, which is the highest rainfall in recorded in entire month of March during the last 10 years.
The maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 31°C whereas the minimum temperatures are likely to be around 21°C. This rainy spell is unlikely to last long as chances of sky clearing up is on the cards. Weather will improve from March 13 onward.
