The state of West Bengal has remained dry for some time now. However, things are all set to change as rainfall activity is likely to make an appearance around February 16. Moreover, the city of Kolkata is likely to see light rains on February 16 and 17.

The reason for these rains will be attributed to the Trough which is extending from induced cyclonic Circulation over North Rajasthan to Uttar Pradesh will extend further towards West Bengal.

Along with this, humid winds from Bay of Bengal as well as northerly winds will also result in the development of confluence zone. In fact, the remnants of the Western Disturbance will be moving along the foothills of the Himalayas which will result in rains over the Sub Himalayan West Bengal.

By February 17, the weather features will weaken resulting in dry weather over the state of West Bengal. The state of West Bengal has been witnessing a large deficiency since January 1 and at present, the rainfall deficiency settles at a whopping -84 percent.

Rains in West Bengal during this time of the year occur only due to the remnants of the Western Disturbance as systems in the Bay of Bengal form in the southern parts of the Bay.
