During the last week of February, the city of Kolkata received heavy to extremely heavy rains. However, during the month of March, the city of joy only saw on and off rains. Thus, until now, the city has seen just 11 mm of rains as against the monthly total of a whopping 35 mm.
Now, a confluence has formed and is extending from Northeast Madhya Pradesh to Gangetic West Bengal across Jharkhand and North Odisha. Thus, on and off rains will occur over parts of Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata.
However, Kolkata may not receive heavy to very heavy showers. On the other hand, one or two moderate spells over the city are possible during the coming two to three days until March 18.
Thereafter, there is likely to be a break in rains. However, once again, on March 20 and 21, some on and off showers may make an appearance over the city of Kolkata.
By the end of this rain episode, the city of Kolkata may reach close to its normal rainfall figures. Thus, it is also likely, that the city of joy may see a rainy Holi this time as rains are expected to continue until March 21.
