Rain in Kolkata and West Bengal March 14 onward

A prolonged wet spell is being forecast by meteorologists at Skymet, for the entire state of West Bengal between March 14 and 18.

On March 14, these rains will remain scattered and will affect only the Southern half of the state. March 16 onward, the intensity of rain will increase and become widespread. On March 17 and 18, a caution has been extended for people against possibility of thunderstorm, lightning and hailstorm at isolated places.  Gusty winds are likely to affect the state in the later half of the day. The capital city Kolkata, is also expected to receive rain and thunderstorm during this time.

Winter rains in the month of January were practically nil for West Bengal, however the state caught up towards the end of the season with surplus rain. The Pre-Monsoon season so far is also good in terms of rain and the surplus in the state is 82%.

This time, the southern half of Gangetic West Bengal including the cities of 24 Pargana, Midnapore, Digha and Diamond Harbor have performed better than the northern cities of Purnia, Bankura and Malda.

The fresh spell of rain will add on to the existing surplus in the state.
