The state of Maharashtra has been lucky enough to experience isolated rains and thundershower activities for the last two to three days. Regions like South Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada, in particular, have been continuously observing pre-Monsoon activities, wherein light rains have been recorded in Solapur, during the last 24 hours.
According to Skymet Weather, “pre-Monsoon activities have picked up pace in Maharashtra and rains are expected to cover some more regions of the state during the coming days.”
Rains will gradually pick up pace over South Konkan and Goa as well as South Madhya Maharashtra during the next two to three days. One or two intense spells of rain and thundershowers cannot be ruled out over Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri, while rains will occur with light to moderate intensity in Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur and Solapur, during the next 24 to 48 hours.
The reason for these pre-Monsoon activities can be attributed to the Cyclonic Circulation, present over Southeast Arabian Sea. A feeble Trough is also extending along the Maharashtra coast.
In the wake of these activities, temperatures will drop by 2℃ to 3℃ in these areas, leading to pleasant weather conditions.
On the contrary, no relief from heat wave conditions has been observed in parts of Vidarbha including Nagpur, Akola, Amravati, Gondia, Chandrapur and Bramhapuri as well as adjoining parts of North Marathwada so far. The reason being, the continuous flow of dry and hot winds from north/northwest direction.
However, due to light activities going on in the vicinity, some isolated light rains can be foreseen during next 24 hours in Vidarbha region. Despite light rains, the region has to reel under heat wave conditions for some more days.
Weather alert for Maharashtra
Spell of rain and thundershowers with strong winds are possible in Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Osmanabad, Pune, Ratnagiri, Sangli, Satara, Sindhudurg and Solapur during next 6-8 hours.
Talking about North Marathwada, no rains are expected here and the residents of the region would continue to battle dry weather conditions during the coming days.
