Rain in Kochi, Kozhikode, Kollam to continue; to reduce after 48 hours

Rain in Kerala

Kerala has been receiving good rainfall activity since the last many days. During the last 24 hours, also widespread rains were observed over most parts of the state. In fact, rain intensity was mostly moderate to heavy with few very heavy spells.

Piravom in Ernakulam recorded heavy rain to the tune of 119.6 mm. In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Cherthala recorded 87 mm of rain, followed by Quilandy in Kozhikode 82 mm, Kannur 78 mm, Vadakara and Alathur 77 mm, Perinthalmanna 59 mm, Mavelikkara 58 mm, Thrithala 51 mm, Kollengode 49 mm, Nilambur and Enamackel 48 mm.

At present, a cyclonic circulation is over Coastal Karnataka and adjoining areas. Another cyclonic circulation also lies over East central Arabian Sea and is extending up to 5.8 km. A trough is seen running between these two systems. Moreover, easterly winds are prevailing over most parts of South India including Kerala.

Therefore, we expect rainfall activity to continue over many places in Kerala. Coastal areas will receive moderate rains with few heavy spells. Meanwhile, the interior parts will receive light to moderate rains.

Stations such as Kollam, Kochi, Kozhikode may receive heavy rains. Further, after 48 hours, we expect decrease in rainfall activity over few parts of the state.
