The state of Kerala experienced good rainfall activity during the last 24 hours, as light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells were recorded over many parts of the state.
In the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Kottayam recorded 52 mm of rain, followed by Perinthalmanna (Malappuram) 59 mm, Manjeri (Malappuram) 63 mm, Vaikom 48 mm, Perumbavur 53 mm, Vythiri 38 mm, Ambalavayal 30 mm, Chittur 26 mm, Kozha 32 mm, Kochi 23 mm, Chengannur 18 mm, Kuppady 19 mm, Ponnani 16 mm, Karipur 15 mm and Chalakudy 13 mm.
At present, an upper air trough is extending from Maldives to Lakshadweep Island along the Kerala Coast. As this weather system would be moving away and weakening further.
Therefore, weather activities will also decrease but another system i.e. a trough in easterlies at higher levels is likely to approach soon.
Hence, light to moderate rains are expected to continue over many parts of Kerala for another 24 to 36 hours. Thereafter, rainfall activity will decrease significantly.
Talking about the day and night temperatures over Kerala, after rains reduce the maximum temperatures over most parts of the state would be rising.
