Rain in Kerala

The state of Kerala has received good rainfall activity during the entire month of October. In fact, in South Peninsula, only two states i.e. Kerala and Tamil Nadu have received excess rains with Kerala receiving the most amount of rainfall.

However, even though Northeast Monsoon has still not set in, October remains the rainiest month for Kerala during this season with 292.3 mm of normal rains. As of October 22, Kerala has already received 200 mm making it 40% rain surplus.

Now, since the last few days the entire state of Kerala is receiving moderate to heavy rainfall activity. Similarly, during the last 24 hours also, widespread moderate rains were witnessed over most parts of the state.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Punalur recorded 32 mm of rain, followed by Kottayam 23 mm, Kochi 8 mm, Alappuzha and Thiruvananthapuram 7 mm.

Further in the coming days, rains over Kerala are expected to reduce significantly. Meanwhile, light to moderate rains are expected to continue over few southern parts during the next 24 hours. However, after that, for the next three days, only localized light rainfall activity will occur, and weather will remain mostly dry.

After the arrival of Northeast Monsoon, which is expected during the end of October, rains will once again enhance over Kerala.

Talking about the temperatures, due to continuous rains, at present, the maximums are settling in low-30s and minimums in mid-20s, making the weather conditions comfortable and pleasant in Kerala. Further due to reduction of rains, temperatures are also expected to drop and increase the humidity levels.
