At present a trough is seen extending from the low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh up to South Tamil Nadu. Along with this, a cyclonic circulation persists over North Coastal Tamil Nadu and adjoining Andhra Pradesh.
In fact, wind discontinuity can also be marked over Coastal Karnataka to South Karnataka.
After a dry phase, Kerala rains have once again picked up pace and during the last 24 hours, light rainfall activity was observed over few pockets of the state.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Konni (Pathanamthitta) recorded 31.4 mm of rain, followed by Kurudamannil (Pathanamthitta) 22.6 mm, Perumbavur (Ernakulam) 8 mm, Aryankavu (Kollam) 5 mm, Thodupuzha (Idukki) 3.7 mm, Chengannur (Alappuzha) 3 mm and trace of rain was observed in Kochi.
As the northeasterly winds are strengthening, rainfall activity is also expected to enhance further in the coming days over Kerala. We expect scattered light to moderate rains over many places of Kerala.
The coastal parts may receive few moderate spells as well. Rainfall activity will continue and enhance gradually over Kerala.
Looking at all the above conditions, we can say that Northeast Monsoon is likely to set up any time soon now.
